Retired Laborer Passes Away After Short Illness
Granville Dick Brown died at 11:30 Monday [July 19, 1943] morning at the Coleman hospital. Complications resulting from a fractured shoulder was the cause of death. Mr. Brown was taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon suffering from the fracture. He was 70 years of age.

He had been employed as a laborer by the Rock Island. He started to work for the R.I. July 10, 1917 and retired August 30, 1941.

Surviving him are two sons in the armed forces, four daughters and his wife.

Funeral arrangements are not complete, pending word from the sons. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, July 22, 1943)

Mrs. Horace Wood and Marland went to Estherville Sunday to attend the funeral of their brother-in-law, Grandville “Dick” Brown who died at the age of 70 after several months illness. His last illness dated from Saturday, July 17th when he fell and fractured his arm and shoulder. He passed away the following Monday. He leaves a wife and ten children. Two sons are in the service and Grant Brown in the Army was allowed to come for the funeral but Morton in the Navy could not be located. He was a railroad man for 25 years.
