P. C. Brood, age 74, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Woods, Saturday night about midnight after a lingering illness of several weeks, following a stroke of paralysis. He had been a resident of this vicinity about thirty years and he will be missed by his many friends and his family. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. Bailey at the Gruver Presbyterian Church. His four grandsons, Wilbur and Peter Brood, Ellsworth and Robert Woods and Wallace and Kenneth Nelson acted as pallbearers. His daughters, Mrs. Asa Irwin, of Milwaukee, and two brothers-in-law, John and Henry Einslie, of Wyanette, Ill., were here to attend the funeral. Obituary will be found elsewhere in the paper. Funeral Services for Peter C. Brood Held Tuesday Afternoon
Peter C. Brood, son of John and Elna Brood, was born in Sweden July 19, 1859, and came to America with his parents when he was nine years old, and settled in Bureau county, Illinois.On September 25, 1883, he was united in marriage to Mary Einsele, of Wyanet, Ill. To this union five children were born of whom four are living, Leonard and Mrs. Elsie Woods of Gruver; Clifford of Rudyard, Mich.; and Mrs. Nellie Irwin, of Milwaukee, Wis. John Arthur passed away in infancy.
In 1886 Mr. and Mrs. Brood moved to Malcom where they lived until 1895 when they came to Emmet county. In 1913 they moved to Rudyard, Mich., where Mrs. Brood passed away July 17, 1924. Since that time Mr. Brood has been making his home with his children. Since May 1, 1932, he has made his home with Mrs. Woods where he passed away July 22, 1933. In young manhood he was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church. After moving to Gruver he united with the Presbyterian Church.
He leaves besides his four children, twenty-two grandchildren, one great grandchild, one sister, Mrs. R. M. Bodine of Boise, Idaho and one brother, Nels brood, of Moscow, Idaho. Other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his passing. Those attending the funeral from away were John and Henry Einsele of Wyanet, Ill., brother of Mrs. Brood; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Einsele and daughter of Wyanet, Ill.; Mr. Irvy Baltlsberger of Malcom; Frank and Glen Johnson of Grinnell, and Rachel Brood, a grandchild, who is nursing in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Rev. Bailey, of Estherville, in charge. Interment was made beside his wife in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 26, 1933)

Funeral Services Held This Afternoon at Gruver – Dr. Bailey in Charge
P. C. Brood, 74, an early settler of the Gruver community died suddenly Saturday night at the home of his daughter Mrs. Robert Woods. Mr. Brood had suffered a stroke of paralysis about a month ago but had seemed to be making a satisfactory recovery from the attack. He had been sitting up in his chair and had just been helped back in to bed when he passed away.Mr. Brood was born in Sweden on July 19, 1859. He came to this country about 40 years ago but 21 years ago sold his farm and moved to Rudyard, Michigan. He farmed there until retiring from active work some five years ago.
Surviving his passing are four children, Mrs. Woods, Mrs. Asa Irwin of Milwaukee, Wis., Leonard Brood of Gruver, and Clifford Brood of Rudyard. There is a brother Nels Brood of Moscow, Idaho, and one sister, Mrs. R. M. Bodine of Boise, Idaho, also 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Gruver church following a short prayer service at the Mahlum and Anderson funeral chapel. Dr. A. G. Bailey of the Presbyterian church is in charge. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, July 25, 1933)
