Mary Magdaline Einsele, daughter of John and Elizabeth Einsele, was born in Bureau Co., Ill., April 25, 1859.In 1883 on September 25th she was united in marriage to Mr. Peer C. Brood at Wyanet, Ill. To this union was born 5 children of whom four are living. Elsie and Leonard, of Gruver; Nellie and Clifford, of Rudyard, Mich..; John Arthur, dying in infancy.
In 1886 they removed from Wyanet, Ill., to Malcom, Iowa, where they lived until the years 1895, coming to Estherville and later to Gruver. In the spring of 1913 they moved to Rudyard, Mich.
After coming to Gruver she united with the Presbyterian church.
On the evening of July 17th she was suddenly stricken with apoplexy and passed away in a few minutes. She leaves to mourn: her husband, four children and 18 grandchildren; one sister, Ella Kloss, of Malcom, Iowa, and two brothers, John Einsele, of Wyanet, Ill.; and Henry Einsele, of Princetown, Ill.; besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church at Gruver Sunday afternoon. Rev. Voorhies officiating and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 23, 1924)
The funeral of Mrs. Peter Brood, of Rudyard, Mich., was held at the Presbyterian church in Gruver Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Brood died very suddenly Thursday [July 17, 1924] afternoon at her home. Mr. Brood and daughter, Mrs. Nellie Irwin, and son, Clifford, accompanied the remains here. Mrs. Brood was a charter member of the Gruver R.N.A. and the members of the lodge attended the funeral in a body. Mrs. Brood was well known here where she lived on a farm adjoining Gruver for a number of years. Mrs. Robt. Woods and Leonard Brood, daughter and son of Mrs. Brood live near Gruver. The many relatives and friends mourn the death of a good woman. The husband and children have the sympathy of their many friends in this their hour of sorrow. Mrs. Robert Woods and Leonard Brood received word that their mother, Mrs. P. C. Brood had died suddenly of apoplexy Thursday afternoon at her home in Rudyard, Mich. The body arrived in Estherville Sunday morning and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Gruver Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Voorhies, officiating and interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery beside her little son and granddaughter who had preceded her in death. The remains were accompanied by her husband, P. C. Brood; daughter, Mrs. Asa Irwin; and son, Clifford Brood. Mrs. Brood was a member of the Gruver Royal Neighbor Lodge, being a charter member of the lodge and a large number of R.N.A. members from the local lodge and Superior lodge paid their last tribute to their deceased member. The beautiful display of floral offerings testified to the great esteem in which she was held in her home and in her old home, from which the family moved about nine years ago. Her brothers, Henry Einsele, of Wyanett, Ill.; John Einsle, of Princetown, Ill.; and sister, Mrs. Ella Kloss, of Malcolm, Ia., and brother-in-law, Charlie Johnson, of Grinnell and son, Frank Johnson, of Grinnell and niece, Mrs. W. U. Sulsur, of Des Moines, were here to attend the funeral. John and Henry Einsle and Mrs. Kloss returned to their homes Tuesday morning but the rest remained for a few days visit.
