Louis Bohnsack Services Tuesday
Louis “Lou” Bohnsack, 42, died at 1:30 a.m. Jan. 27 in his home in Estherville. He had apparently suffered a heart attack.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Estherville Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Wiegman of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville.
Mr. Bohnsack was born May 24, 1931 at Manning to Lou and Esther Popp Bohnsack. He was graduated from Manning High School and the University of Northern Iowa, where he received a master’s degree. He was married to Eleanor Paton on July 1, 1951 in Hudson.
He coached high school athletics at Reinbeck until 1955, at Ida Grove until 1959, was in the insurance business in Eagle Grove for one year and then coached at Fairfield until 1965 when he came to Estherville. He served as junior high principal and since March, 1972 has been administrative assistant for Estherville Community Schools.
Mr. Bohnsack was an All-State basketball and football player at Manning in 1949, playing on the Manning state basketball team. He was Little All-American football player at University of Northern Iowa in 1952. Mr. Bohnsack was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; one son, James, a student at UNI; one daughter, Janice, a student at Iowa State University, Ames; one sister, Mrs. Bernhardt (Jean) Hollander, Auburn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Trinity Lutheran Choir will sing for the funeral services. Pallbearers will be E. J. Hendrickson, Gordon Forsyth, Robert Hammond, Harold Shugart, Richard Geith, Pearl Smith and Chris Kjar.
Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 28, 1974)
