Brother of Local Folks Died Monday at Pierre, So. Dak.
Ed Booth, 59, brother of Charles, George and Priscilla Booth died at a hospital at Pierre, South Dakota, Monday afternoon of heart failure. Mr. Booth, a single man, had been ill in the hospital only a week. His home was at LaPlante, South Dakota. Mr. Booth was born on the farm home of his parents in Swan Lake township and spent his young man hood in this county.

Funeral services will be held here but arrangements are not complete. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 25, 1941)

Funeral services for Edwin Booth, 59, of La Plante, So. Dak., will be held in Estherville Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Mahlum & Anderson funeral home. The Rev. Fred Sawyer will have charge of the services. Burial will be in the family lot in the Oak Hill cemetery. Services at the grave will be in charge of the Armstrong Masonic order assisted by the Estherville chapter. Mr. Booth had retained his membership in the Armstrong chapter having joined with them when he resided near Halfa.

Although he has lived away from Estherville for several years Mr. Booth has returned to Estherville for frequent visits and to renew his acquaintances and friendships. His most recent visit was during the month of January when he spent several weeks visiting relatives and friends here. For a number of years he was engaged in the restaurant business at LaPlante.

Mr. Booth entered St. Mary’s hospital at Pierre, South Dakota, last week for treatment of heart disease. Relatives here were unaware of the seriousness of his illness and his death Monday [March 24, 1941] evening came as a great shock to his family and friends.

George and Charles Booth left at once for LaPlante after receiving word of their brother’s death and will accompany the body back to Estherville this (Thursday) evening following services there. E. A. Booth, another brother and his son of Ridgeview, So. Dak., will also accompany the body here.

Two sisters, Miss Priscilla Booth of Estherville and Mrs. Soren Nielsen of Halfa, and another brother, Daniel Booth of Des Moines also survive their brother. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Booth passed away several years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Booth of Des Moines, will arrive in Estherville this (Thursday) evening for the funeral services.
