Walter F. Wratten
Walter Francis Wratten, 78, formerly of 1229 Twentieth street SW, a retired Rock Island railroad employee and a Cedar Rapids resident since 1936, died in a Cedar Rapids hospital Monday following a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 31, 1894, at Estherville.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Jay G. Wratten, Cedar Rapids, and William F. Wratten, Arlington Heights, Ill.; a daughter, Shirley Ann Syers, Bettendorf; three sisters, Mrs. Roy Stoddard, Mesa, Ariz., Harriett Benson, Spencer, and Mrs. Otto Kline, and a brother, Harry Wratten, both of Estherville, and nine grandchildren. Walter Wratten Memorial in Estherville Thursday
Walter Wratten, 78, formerly of Estherville, died at Cedar Rapids Feb. 5, 1973.
The body is to be cremated and the remains returned to Estherville Thursday. A memorial service is to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reese-Henry Funeral Chapel, Estherville, with the Rev. Robert Miller of Estherville Christian Church officiating. Interment will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Wratten was born Aug. 23, 1894, at Estherville to Walter and Adeline Wratten. He was educated in Estherville schools and was married in 1916 to Vivian [Vivienne] Bratsberg at Ellsworth, Minn. He was a general foreman for Rock Island Railroad and had lived in Cedar Rapids since 1951.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. J. Gordon Wratten of Cedar Rapids and William Wratten of Alexandria, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. William (Shirley) Syers of Bettendorf; several grandchildren; one brother, Harry Wratten; and three sisters, Mrs. Otto Klein, Estherville, Mrs. Harriet Benson, Spencer, and Mrs. Mary Stoddard of Mesa, Ariz.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, one son and one daughter, one brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 7, 1973)
