Miss Fern Williams Died in Illinois
Well Known Young Lady Victim of Pneumonia Following “Flu” – Funeral Sunday
Miss Fern Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bird Williams, who live near this city, died in Bloomington, Illinois, on Thursday, December 26th, of typhoid pneumonia following an attack of the “flu.” She was only sick three days when death came to relieve her of her sufferings. She was employed in a department store in that city at the time of her death. The suddenness with which death overtook her came as a great shock to the community. The body was brought back to her parents and friends in this home Saturday morning and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon.

Fern Anne Williams was born near McClean, Illinois, on June 30th, 1898. She was at the time of her death twenty years, five months, and twenty-six days of age. She moved to this county seven years ago with her parents, and spent most of that time on the farm northeast of this city and in town, where she held various positions. She finished school at the Reimer school six years ago. She was known to her friends as a big-hearted, cheery dispositioned girl who would rather be doing some act of friendship and kindness than anything else in the world. Her loss is a great blow to those who knew her best.

Besides the grief stricken parents she leaves one brother in France, two brothers at home, and four sisters to mourn her loss. To those loved ones the sympathy of the entire community is extended in this dark hour of trouble. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, January 1, 1919)
