Life-time Resident of Area Dies
Mrs. H. W. (Julia Marie Rugtiv) Whorley, resident of this area all her life, died yesterday at Holy Family Hospital. She was 61.

Mrs. Whorley had been in ill health for the past three years, during that time spending considerable time at hospitals in Fort Dodge and Rochester. She returned to Estherville from Rochester on Jan. 23 and was cared for at home until Feb. 22 when she entered Holy Family Hospital.

Born on Jan. 21, 1894 on a farm nine miles northwest of Estherville, she moved with her parents to the city in 1900. She received her schooling here, graduating in 1912.

In 1930 she was married to H. W. Whorley and in 1936 the couple made its home on a farm four miles west of town where they lived ever since.

She is survived by her husband and two sister-in-laws, Mrs. A. E. Rugtiv of St. Louis and Mrs. Olive Rugtiv of Oakland, Calif. Five nieces and three nephews also survive her death.

Funeral services will be on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran Church, with the Rev. L. G. Hinderaker officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at the Sternborg Funeral home from Sunday noon until Monday noon. The casket will not be opened at the church.

The family has announced that a memorial fund has been established on Mrs. Whorley’s death. The proceeds from the fund will be contributed to Cancer Crusade. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 26, 1955)
