Pioneer Dies In California
Chauncy Ammon, 83, Passes at Home in Brenton Heights
Chancy R. Ammon, a pioneer and former resident of Estherville, died at his home in Brentwood Heights, Los Angeles, Calif. Monday. Mr. Ammon had been in poor health for many years. He was 83 years old. Dorothy Klopp, a cousin of his, was with him at the time of his death.Mr. Ammon operated a flour mill on the Des Moines river bank in Estherville for many years, being associated with C.M. Brown. Mr. Ammon took over the operation of the mill after the death of his father who was an early settler and operated the mill. He sold his interest in the mill to C.M. Brown. He also owned quite a bit of property in Estherville and vicinity.
The Ammon family lived in Decorah before coming to Estherville to live. Mr. and Mrs. Ammon left Estherville about forty years ago to go to California. On the tract of land which he purchased there are now located the homes of many of the top flight movie stars.
There is no family surviving his death. His wife, brother and sister preceded him in death several years ago. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, July 15, 1943)
