Lorenzo Smith, Retired Farmer, Dies at 93
Britt – Lorenzo (Ren) Smith, 93, retired farmer, died Friday [September 12, 1958] at the Hancock Memorial Hospital here following a long illness. He was the son of Simon and Loretta Smith. He was born in New York and lived in Pontiac, Ill., until a young man. He was married to Lilly Earp in Pontiac before coming to Iowa.

Mrs. Smith died in 1932. He was later married to Mrs. Rose Eisenhower [Widow of William A. Eisenhower of Estherville], who died in 1957. Survivors are five children, William, Roy, Glenn and Mrs. Cecil (Loretta) Hildebrand, all of Britt and Orville, Wesley; 23 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Louis Sigler, Pontiac, Ill., and a brother, Delbert, Albuquerque, N.M. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Sidney (Dora) Wallburg, Algona in 1952, and by five brothers and five half-brothers. One brother, Will Smith, died Friday in Illinois.

Mr. Smith was a prominent farmer in this area. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church here and served many years as a school director and trustee in Boone township.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church, Britt, preceded by a prayer service for the immediate family at the Boughton Funeral Home. The Rev. Ernest V. Steed will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. (Mason City Globe-Gazette, Mason City, IA, September 13, 1958)
