George Smith dies; rites to be Monday
George A. Smith, 82, Estherville, died at 1:15 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital.

He was born April 23, 1889 [cemetery records say 1890], in Patras, Greece, educated in Greece, and came to this country when 22 years old. He came to Estherville in the fall of 1929 and owned and operated the Recreation club here until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel [Collins]; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Wood of New Braunfels, Tex., and Mrs. Lovie Marie Kellner of Martinez, Calif.; and four grandsons, Jeffrey and Michael Wood and Matthew and George Kellner.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Keeman, who was killed in 1951 in the Korean conflict.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church, Estherville, with Father Don Haviland and Father Bryce Hunt officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home in Estherville.

Friends may call at the funeral home all day Sunday and until noon Monday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 10, 1971)
