Lifelong Resident Dies at 58
Elmer Sumpter, 58, lifetime resident of Estherville, died Saturday at 10:50 a.m. after a short illness at Holy Family Hospital.

Elmer R. Sumpter was born Nov. 19, 1908, in Estherville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Sumpter. His mother’s professional name was Dr. Alice Stinson, and she was a medical doctor here until her health failed. Dr. Stinson died in October, 1964.

He received his elementary and high school education in Estherville and attended the University of Iowa. He was employed here by the State Conservation Commission.

Mr. Sumpter was married in April 1938, to Gladys Larson of Wallingford. They were married in Estherville.

He is survived by one son, Jon of Davenport; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Sandra) Burke of Cherokee; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are to be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
