Word has been received her of the death of Steven Arnold Sullivan, 70, retired railroad man and a former resident of this community, on Sunday, July 30 in a Fairmont, Minn., hospital. He had been a patient at hospitals for several weeks and had been in failing health for several months.Born in Jo Davis county, Ill., he formerly worked as a fireman on the old Cedar Rapids, Gardner, and Northwestern railroad. He began work as an engineer for the Rock Island railroad at Estherville in 1900. In 1902 he was married to Miss Susan Becker of Garner.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Mrs. T. D. O’Connell of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Leo Clark of Welcome, Minn., and Mrs. Merton Mason of Estherville. Two brothers, Harry and John, both of New York, a sister, Mrs. Retta Simpson, also of New York, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild also survive.
Services were held today at 9 a.m. at the Catholic church here. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 3, 1944)
