Stone – Mrs. Myrtle Stone, wife of J. E. Stone, died Nov. 19th at her home in West Bend, Iowa. Mrs. Stone was well known in Estherville, her father, Harvey Miller, being among the first settlers in this county. She was born in Delaware county, this state, Aug. 7th, 1861. She was married in Aberdeen, South Dakota, in 1888. A husband and two children, one 8 years the other a few weeks old, are left to mourn her loss.

She was buried here in Oakwood [Oak Hill] cemetery on the morning of Nov. 20th, the Rev. W. H. Tomlins, rector of Grace church, holding the service at the grave, a few of our citizens, men and women attending, notwithstanding the raging blizzard.

Mrs. Stone had made all arrangements for her funeral before her death. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, November 24, 1898)

Note: Obituary says "Myrtle", cemetery records say "Mary".
