Obituary of Peter Smithburg
Perry Smithberg was born November 9, 1873, at Skone, Sweden, being the son of Jacob and Meta Smithberg.

Mr. Smithberg came to America at the age of seven years with his parents who first took up their residence at Omaha, Nebr., where they resided for some time before moving to Estherville, Iowa.

Mr. Smithberg was married to Judith Ledahl at Lake Preston, S.D., on February 18th, 1903, after which he made his home at Abercrombie, N.D., for a year, then moving to his present home two miles west of Noonan which he homesteaded. To this union was born eleven children, one daughter, preceding her father to the grave.

The surviving members of the family numbering ten are: Arthur, Viola, Pearl, Vernice, LeRoy, Lenford, Harold, AltaMay, Donald and Esther.

Mr. Smithberg met death suddenly while hauling grain into Ambrose when his truck overturned six miles south of that city.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rosholt of Crosby, at the home, Bethlehem Lutheran church at Noonan and Zion Lutheran church south of Noonan, where interment took place.

The high esteem in which Mr. Smithberg was held in his community was evidenced by the large gathering attending the funeral rites. This being one of the largest funeral processions ever held in this vicinity. The Miner joins with the many friends of the sorrowing family in extending sincere sympathy. – Noonan, N.D., Miner. – (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 17, 1926)
