Final Rites for Local Resident to Be Held Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. Lilith Shonkwiler, 86, will be held at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Reese-Henry Chapel.

Mrs. Shonkwiler died at 9:15 a.m. yesterday at Holy Family Hospital from the infirmities of advanced age. She had been in the hospital six days.

She was born Aug. 31, 1882, at Rising City, Neb., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Combs. She received her education in Creighton, Neb., and attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls.

She taught school at Stromeberg, Neb., and Hartley, Iowa.

She was married June 18, 1906, to Simon A. Shonkwiler at Arnolds Park. Mr. Shonkwiler died Nov. 28, 1925 [November 27, 1945].

Mrs. Shonkwiler was a member of Union Baptist church and of Chapter AY of P.E.O.

Surviving are five sons, Oliver, Richard, and Roger of Estherville, Douglas of DuMont, N.J., and Lincoln of Hamilton, N.J., and Lincoln of Hamilton, Mont.; two daughters, Mrs. Claude (Ruth) Willey of Storm Lake, and Mrs. Lowell (Ann) Evans of Newport Beach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother, J. Neil Combs of Newport Beach and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Blank, Pasadena, Texas; Georgia Combs, Estherville; and Mrs. Beulah Thompson of San Francisco.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, a sister, and two grandchildren. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 19, 1968)
