Mrs. Sanborn Dies Saturday at Armstrong
Had Been in Failing Health for Five Years – Funeral Tuesday
Mrs. Clara M. Sanborn, mother of Clyde Sanborn of Estherville Died Saturday night at Armstrong after an illness extending over five years. Mrs. Sanborn whose maiden name was Clara Dale was born at Lehigh, Iowa. A girl of 14 she came to Swea City with her family and completed her education in the schools of that place. She became a member of the M.E. church there.On October 26, 1895, she was married to Edwin D. Sanborn of Estherville and they made their home in this city until 1909 when the family moved to Texas for Mr. Sanborn’s health. He passed away on July 13, 1812 [1912]. Mrs. Sanborn, however, continued to reside at El Paso, Texas, until a year ago last July. Since that time she has made her home with her only child, Clyde E. Sanborn.
Mrs. Sanborn was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Other surviving relatives are four sisters, Mrs. G. G. William, Vinton, Mrs. W. F. Clemesha, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Elmer Myhre, Ankeny, Mrs. Olaf Rosenburg, Albert Lea, and four brothers, Joe Packman, Davenport, Keith and Tom Packman, Los Angeles, and Wallace Packman, Iowa City.
Mrs. Sanborn was a gracious, kindly woman known in Estherville for her serene beauty. She had numerous friends here whom she held during her years of absence from the town.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock from the Estherville Christian church. Interment was made in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 6, 1934)
