Estherville Native Succumbs in California
Estherville – Donald Henry Sampson, 49, Long Beach, Calif., and a native of Estherville, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Long Beach.

Military services for Mr. Sampson were held at 2 p.m. today at the Henry Funeral Chapel in Estherville with the Rev. Christian Notsund officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Sampson was born Dec. 10, 1924 at Estherville to Ben and Clara Sampson, was educated in Estherville schools and farmed until moving to California three years ago.

He served in the Marine Corps for three years during World War II and was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Mr. Sampson is survived by his mother, a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville; three brothers, Marion of Jackson, Minn., Harold of Estherville and LeRoy of Des Moines; and three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Fox, Mrs. William (Audine) Kinnard and Mrs. William (Betty) Wellnitz, all of Estherville. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 9, 1974)
