John Utz Dies At His Home
Passes Away Wednesday Night After Suffering From Cerebral Hemorrhage. Funeral SaturdayJohn Utz, 77, passed away at his home at 11:55 Wednesday [August 5, 1942] night, failing to recover from a cerebral hemorrhage which he suffered.
Mr. Utz is well known in this vicinity having lived around here since 1896.
John Franklin Utz was born on January 18, 1865, at Linganora, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of Jos. H. and Isabelle Keller Utz.
He was united in marriage to Miss Laura Snyder on March 12, 1891, here in Estherville. Following their marriage they lived in Auburn, Neb., and vicinity until 1896, when they returned to Estherville, where they lived on a farm for over 20 years. Fifteen years ago they retired from the farm and have lived at 1020 Central avenue since.
His sister, Mrs. Anna Buterbaugh of Hagertown, Md., preceded him in death several years ago. He has besides his wife, one daughter, Mina Utz of Estherville, and one son, Carl Utz, of Davenport, Ia., surviving him.
He also has one brother, J. Byron Utz of Baltimore, Md., two sisters, Mary E. Miller, Martinsburg, W. Va., and Margaret Bricker, of Philadelphia, Pa.
He has no grandchildren, but he had a daughter in law, Mrs. Carl Utz, who mourns his death.
Funeral arrangements have been made and the services will be held Saturday afternoon at the Mahlum & Anderson chapel at 2 o’clock with Rev. G. L. Conley officiating. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 6, 1942)
