Mrs. John F. Utz, 93, Dies At Her Home
Mrs. John F. (Laura) Utz, 93, died Tuesday [August 7, 1962] afternoon at the home, 926 Central, which she and her parents first occupied 73 years ago and where she was married in 1891.

Mrs. Utz, in failing health for the past year, died of complications of old age.

Born Dec. 13, 1868, Washington County, Md., she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Snyder, to Boone County when she was 2. The family later returned to Maryland for a time, then came to Estherville when Laura was 20.

She was employed as a bookkeeper at Rhodes’ Store here until her marriage, March 13, 1891, to John F. Utz at the Snyder family home on Central Avenue.

Mrs. Utz was a former member and organizer of rural women’s clubs in this county and was also a member of the Methodist Church here.

She is survived by one son, Carl of Davenport, one daughter, Mina of Estherville and several nieces and nephews, including Elver Yule of Estherville.

Mrs. Utz was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.

Funeral services for her will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Sternborg-Reese chapel, the Rev. Fred Ortmeyer will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
