Long Time Resident Passes
Mrs. Ike Rogers Dies Monday Night After Several Months’ Illness; Came to Estherville in 1884Mrs. Ike Rogers passed away Monday [August 9, 1943] at 11:40 p.m. at her home. The cause of her death was hardening of the arteries and a kidney ailment. She had been ill for several months. She was 71 years of age.
Margaret Louise Hawk was born March 14, 1872 at Decorah, Iowa. She move to Estherville when she was 12 years of age and has made her home here since. She was married October 25, 1892 to Ike Rogers of Estherville. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year.
She is survived by her husband; a son, C. A. Rogers of Sioux City; three daughters, Mrs. E. E. Peterson of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Sam Danielson of Estherville and Dorothy at home; and a brother, I. K. Hawk who lives in the West. Two children preceded her in death.
Mrs. Rogers was affiliated with the Royal Neighbor lodge and the Estherville Woman’s club and was a charter member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Rogers during her long years of residence here has greatly endeared herself to a wide circle of friends. She has been a conscientious and loving wife and mother, her home coming first above other outside interests.
Her passing will leave an unfilled gap in the circle of her church and in the community.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 p.m. at the home with Rev. Fred Ortmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 12, 1943)
