Mrs. Spratt is Stricken
Dies Thursday Night of Heart Attack

Mrs. William H. Spratt, 73, died very suddenly at her farm home southwest of Estherville Thursday [November 2, 1933] evening. She was stricken with a heart attack and died before a doctor could reach her. Mrs. Spratt while she had a serious stroke seven years ago had been in very good health in recent years and her passing was a great shock to her family.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at two thirty o’clock from the Free Methodist church of which she was a member. Rev. McDonald, pastor of the church was in charge. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. Those acting as pall bearers were Dave Ingvall, Percy Carrison, Wm. Pannell, Chas. Bixby, Chas. Levell and Lou Moore.

Out of town relatives present for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Emil Schoenthal of Sac City, Miss Blanche Spratt and Miss Jane Harris of Sioux City.

Sarah Ellen Sauerman was born at Blue Grass, Scott county, Dec. 29, 1859. On January 25, 1887, she was married to William H. Spratt of Muscatine, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Spratt moved to Walnut after their marriage, and later to different locations until 1914 when they moved to Estherville where they have since made their home. Seven children were born to them, Mrs. James Reeder of Estherville, Mrs. R. J. Woodyard of Spencer, Irma, Charles R., Geo. L., Ervin, and Irwin all of Estherville.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters in law and to sons in law. One granddaughter preceded her in death.

Mrs. Spratt was much interested in church and Sunday school work. She taught a Sunday school class for three years without missing a service and had to travel three miles in a buggy to the service. She recently transferred her church membership to the Free Methodist church which she and Mr. Spratt had been attending for some time. Letters of transfer had been received the week of her death.

Mrs. Spratt was a faithful Christian, a kind and loving wife and mother and she will be greatly missed not only by her family but by a large group of friends. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 7, 1933)
