A.D. McWilliams, 59, Former Resident Here, Dies at Estherville

Arthur D. McWilliams, 59, was found dead Wednesday morning at his home in Estherville by Mrs. Paul Paulson, who lives in an upstairs apartment in his home. McWilliams was a former Graettinger business man and was well known in this area.

County Medical Examiner Dr. L. W. Loving said McWilliams apparently died in his sleep sometime within the past 36 hours. He was reportedly last seen Monday afternoon and authorities said it is possible he may have died Monday night.

Dr. Loving said McWilliams apparently died of a heart attack, although an autopsy was to be conducted to determine exact cause of death.

He is survived by his wife, who is presently at Independence, Mo., recovering from heart surgery, and by a daughter, Mrs. Darwin Rasmussen, Graettinger, and a son, Donald, of Ames.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral home. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, July 26, 1962)

McWilliams Funeral Set
Funeral services for Arthur D. McWilliams, 59, found dead at his Estherville home Wednesday morning, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Ortmeyer to officiate. Burial is to be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

His wife will be unable to return for the services because of recent heart surgery. She is convalescing at the home of her brother, Ed Sweet, 3909 Blue Ridge Blvd., Independence, Mo.

Born May 2, 1903 in St. Paul he spent his early years in Winnipeg, Canada, and later moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he attended the Kansas City School of Law.

He was married Sept. 1, 1928 to Lillie Sweet of Estherville. The couple later moved to Dallas, Tex. and then to Lake Park and Graettinger.

The McWilliames came to Estherville in 1950 and he opened McWilliams Appliance Shop on S. 6th St.

Survivors include his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Darwin Rasmussen of Graettinger, and a son, Donald, of Anaheim, Calif. Five grandchildren also survive.

Other survivors include a brother, Harold of Chicago, and a sister, Mrs. Marvel Brown of Emmet, Kans.

He was preceded in death by his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 27, 1962)
