O. A. McCall Died last Wednesday
Resident of Emmet County for Thirty-four Years – Prominent in Affairs of CountyIt was with deep regret that the citizens of this community learned last Wednesday morning that O. A. McCall had passed away at 6:30 after an illness of only a few days. He had a stroke of apoplexy ten days previous to his death and was in an unconscious condition from that time until he passed away. Deceased came to this county from Martelle, Iowa, in 1890 and had been a continuous resident here since that time. He was engaged in the grain buying business for years and later one of the best known stockmen in northern Iowa. Fifteen years ago he purchased a farm northwest of town and for the past five years had resided there. The writer had known Mr. McCall from the time he came to this county and he was as fine a man as ever lived. Straight in his business transactions, good to his family and kind to his friends. There are few men of which all these good things can be said. Before coming to Estherville he was married to Grace D. Pollard, who survives him, and three children, Mrs. W. W. Bartlett at Perris, Calif.; George McCall, Riverside, Calif.; and Grove C. McCall of this place are also left to mourn his death. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at three o’clock Sunday afternoon in charge of the pastor, Rev. W. F. Huxford, and interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. His remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of sympathizing friends. He was seventy-one year of age at the time of his death. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their time of sorrow. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, May 21, 1924)
