Tuesday Rites Scheduled for Ethel McArdle

Miss Ethel McArdle, 79, rural Estherville, died at 10:50 a.m. Saturday [April 12, 1969] at Holy Family Hospital from cancer. She had been in failing health since last fall.

She was born April 25, 1889, at Sioux Falls, S.D., to Mr. and Mrs. William McArdle. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1908 and attended Wisconsin Normal School.

She taught school for 50 years. She taught at Thompson, Garner, Clear Lake, Guttenburg and for the last 34 years of teaching, she was at Independence.

She retired 11 years ago and at that time came to make her home with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Morton, rural Estherville.

She was a 54-years member of the Eastern Star and White Shrine.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and WSCS.

She is also survived by two nephews and one niece, three grandnieces and two grand nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with Eastern Star graveside rites.

Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home in Estherville anytime today until 11 a.m. Tuesday when the casket will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 14, 1969)
