Wm. M’Ardle, 72, Dies Suddenly of Pneumonia
Services Held Sunday for Mason

William McArdle, who had been a resident of Estherville for 39 years, died Memorial day morning at the age of 72 from pneumonia. Funeral services which were held Sunday at the Methodist church, were in charge of the Chapter Blue lodge of the Masonic order, with the Sir Knights as escorts. The Rev. W. A. WinterStein officiated at the service. Pallbearers were Charles Archibald, J. Dunham, Charles Kilgore, Charles Keeler, Thomas Nivison and Warren Dillon. Burial was in Oakhill cemetery.

William McArdle was born Feb. 11, 1857, in England and came to America when he was six months old. His boyhood was spent near Sterling, Ill. He began engineering for the B.C.R. & N. in 1886. On June 28, 1888 he was married to Miss Ella Peters at West Union. They lived in Watertown, S.D., for three years and then moved to Estherville. He worked for the B.C.R. & N. for 26 years and then purchased a grocery store which he sold a few years later. In 1913 he and his family moved to St. Cloud, Minn., where he owned an oil station for one year. He returned to Estherville and purchased the Deep Rock Oil station. Three years ago he rented the station to Ernest and Maynard Johnson.

Mr. McArdle is a member of the Methodist church, Eastern Star lodge, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers association, and the Masonic lodge. He is also a member of the Chapter Blue lodge and commander of Masonic order. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Ethel and Mrs. Dorothy Morton, of Estherville.
