Lingering Illness is Fatal
A lingering heart ailment proved fatal to Mrs. Ella McArdle, 71, and she passed away about 12:30 a.m. Monday [January 12, 1942] morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Owen Morton. Although in failing health for more than a year she had been up and around until the past few weeks when she has been confined to her bed.

Mrs. McArdle has been a resident of this city for nearly 45 years. During her long residence here she has been a member of the Methodist church and of the Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine. She took an active part in all these organizations, giving freely of her services whenever called upon.

Until her recent illness Mrs. McArdle made her home on north Sixth street in the home which she and her husband purchased many years ago. She was a kind and thoughtful neighbor and a good friend whose cheerful and pleasant disposition made her the favorite of a large circle of friends.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed pending the arrival of her daughter, Miss Ethel McArdle, a teacher at Independence.

Besides her daughter, Mrs. McArdle is survived by one sister, Mrs. George Abbott of Independence and three grandchildren, Sherman Morton, of Sioux Falls, So. Dak., and Carmel Jean and James Morton, of Estherville. Her husband and one daughter, Miss Irma [Erma] McArdle have preceded her in death. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, January 13, 1942)
