C. M. Martinson [Martinsen] Pioneer Resident Dies Saturday
Charles M. Martinson, another fine pioneer resident, passed away last Saturday [May 29, 1948] at 5:15 p.m. at the age of 82. He was well known in the county and was well known as a man interested in wild life and conservation.He was a mail carrier for many years entering the service at the year 1901 and retired after 30 years of service. He was an excellent carrier and was well liked on his route. He was in service at the time the writer was in the post office and we know he gave very efficient service and had many friends on the route.
He was born May 24, 1866 on the Atlantic at the time his parents were coming to this country from Norway. The family settled on a homestead in Lost Island township in Palo Alto county. He came to this county in 1901.
He was united in marriage to Dena Hoffman, May 11, 1911 and they have made their home on the west side in the wooded district of School Section Creek.
He is survived by his widow, three sons: Norman of Eugene, Oregon, Romaine of San Pedro, Calif., and Frank of this city; and three daughters: Mrs. Mildred Schueler of Berkley, Calif., Helen Nelson of Terril and Mrs. Evelyn Taylor of Bagley.
Funeral services were held from the Sternborg Chapel at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 3, 1948)
