Mrs. Charles Lewis Dies
Mrs. Charles (Louise) Lewis, 76, died yesterday at 10:22 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Home where she had been a resident for the past several weeks. Mrs. Lewis had been in failing health for the past year. Cause of death was cancer.

Louies Ethelinda Griffith was born Nov. 4, 1880 at Whitten, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Griffith. She spent her early life and attended schools at Story City.

She was married Oct. 6, 1901 [4?] to Charles Lewis at Ames and for several years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Lewis made their home at Jewel. Upon leaving Jewel they moved to Chokio, Minn. and in 1921 they moved from Chokio to Estherville. Mr. Lewis purchased what is now the Estherville hardware and later established partnership in the store with Harry Bauman, present owner operator, who purchased Mr. Lewis’ interest in the business in 1943 when Mr. and Mrs. Lewis returned to Chokio to make their home.

They lived at Chokio until Mr. Lewis’ death on Dec. 3, 1955 after which Mrs. Lewis returned to Estherville to make her home.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by two sisters, Mrs. George Kirchner and Mrs. Hattie Boggess and one brother, Lee Griffith, all of Estherville. Survivors also include several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sandin Funeral Home, the Rev. Lester Strubhar officiating. Interment [remainder unreadable]. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 18, 1957)
