To this union fourteen children were born, twelve of whom are living, as follows: Robert, George, William, Francis Joseph, Charles, Thomas, Mrs. Mary Leo, Mrs. Ella Irwin, Misses Annie, Lillian and Hazel, all of whom were at the funeral except Joseph who was in the state of Washington.
In June 1868 he came to Emmet County and settled on a homestead four miles east of Estherville where he live dup to the time of his death, Friday, Dec. 10, 1909.

He endured the hardships incident to pioneer life without complaining and managed by industry and frugality to make a comfortable home for his declining years, which he enjoyed surrounded by his good wife and a large family of grown up sons and daughters.
