Past Eighty Years Old
Had Made His Home With N. J. Lee Since 1914 – Well Known to Estherville People

Lewis N. Lee died very suddenly Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Lee on north Seventh street where he has been staying since coming to Estherville eleven years ago. The cause of his death was the result of an apoplectic stroke. Deceased was born on October 16, 1844, at Noss, Norway and came to this country with his parents, Ragnilda Lee and Nels Lee, when seven years of age. The family settled in Chicago. A few years later the family removed to Leeds, Columbian county, Wisconsin, where Mr. Lee continued to reside until 1910 when he made his home in Madison for a few years, but since the spring of 1914 he has made his home with his nephew, N. J. Lee, in this city. Mr. Lee was a farmer the greater part of his active life, but in his earlier years operated a shingle mill in Wisconsin. He was never married and lived a life of single blessedness. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. J. N. Mickelson and Mrs. Foduld of Columbia county, Wisconsin and by his nephews, N. J. Lee of this city; and R. M. Lee of Chicago and his nieces, Mrs. T. J. Randolph and Mrs. H. J. Amundson at Alexander, N. Dak., and Mrs. W. E. Robb at Minot, N. Dak. Deceased was a brother of J. N. Lee who was one of the pioneer citizens of this county and held the office of recorder for many years. He was a well educated man and a great reader and well informed upon many subjects in which he took a great deal of interest. He was an accomplished violinist and spoke German fluently and also his native language. Besides his relatives his death is mourned by many Estherville friends. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the N. J. Lee residence, conducted by Rev. R. T. Chipperfield and burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. The pall bearers will be J. W. Morse, L. E. Stockdale, Dr. S. G. Ewen, K. K. Nau, F. H. Sunderlin and L. H. Saveride. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, January 6, 1926)

Lewis N. Lee Falls to Death Sunday
A terrible accident occurred last Sunday evening at about five thirty o’clock at the N. J. Lee home on north Seventh street when Lewis N. Lee, an uncle of N. J. Lee, fell down the basement steps as he was going to his rooms and was instantly killed. It is not known just how the accident happened as no one saw him fall. He had very poor eyesight and for years it has been extremely hard for him to walk. It is thought he might have had a stroke or he may have just slipped of stumbled. His head was badly bruised and the shock or the blow across the head as he fell killed him instantly. Dr. Ewen residing next door was called and he called Dr. Wilson, who pronounced him dead.

N. J. Lee and M. J. Groves had just left on the evening train for Des Moines and Mr. Lee was reached on the train at Graettinger and returned at once to this city.

Lewis Lee was eighty years of age and came here a few years ago to reside at the home of N. J. Lee where he was to make his home during his life time. He was a retired farmer before he came from near Madison, Wis., to this city. He was of a quiet disposition but those who knew him best thought a great deal of him. The funeral services were held this afternoon from the home and interment was made in the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 6, 1926)
