Funeral Rites for Mrs. Lausen Held Sunday
Our departed sister in Christ was Mrs. Lena Lausen, nee Stockberger. She was born on the 12th day of April, 1868, in Wuertemberg, Germany. In 1870, as a little child she emigrated to America with her parents. For a short time the family made their home in Sterling, Ill., and then moved to Boone Co., Iowa, and later to Adel in Dallas Co., where the deceased spent the years of her youth. Here it was too that she was instructed in the principles of the teachings of the Lutheran church and confirmed in that faith, to which church she also remained faithful to the end.
On December 3rd, 1885, she was married to Mr. Detlaff Lausen which marriage the Lord blessed with three children, Elizabeth, who preceded her mother in death; Fred who is living in California, and Edwin who is a resident of Emmet County. In 1894 Mr. Lausen with his family left Dallas Co. and move on a farm north west of Estherville where the family resided until 1918 when they left the farm and made their home in this city.
Last Wednesday evening, May 4th, Mrs. Lausen became ill and early Thursday morning a fatal heart attack suddenly ended her life, thus bringing her earthly sojourn to the age of 64 years and 23 days.
She is survived and mourned by her bereaved husband and her two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Huckaba of Estherville and Mrs. John Bristle of Perry, her two sons, Fred and Edwin; and two sons, Fred and Edwin; and a brother, Jake Stockberger of Estherville, also five grandchildren and a host of friends.
May the Lord grant unto her body a peaceful rest in the earth and on judgment day a glorious resurrection together with us all unto eternal happiness. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 11, 1932)
