Frank John Kortum Dies at Age 76
Frank John Kortum, 76, died about 2:15 p.m. Monday [August 28, 1967] at the Good Samaritan Center from complications of advanced age. He had been in ill health the past seven years.He was born Feb. 21, 1891, at Paullina, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kortum. He moved to a farm north of Estherville when he was four years old. He attended rural Emmet County schools.
He was married in 1920 to Lois Lilly in Arkansas. They were divorced in 1939. April 8, 1949, he married Lela Smith at Mountain Home, Arkansas.
He spent a number of years in California and settled in Texarkana, Ark., where he lived for 20 years, returning to the farm north of Estherville in 1949.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lela, rural Estherville, one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Anna) Busby, St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Also four sister, Mrs. Charles Taylor, Estherville; Mrs. Hans Top, San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Edward Meyers, Santa Clara, Calif.; Mrs. Robert Chambers, Galt, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, and one brother.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Reese-Henry Chapel, Estherville, Rev. Roy Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until time of services on Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 29, 1967)
