Miss Ilda Koehler, 85, is Laid to Rest Wednesday; Came to Emmet County in Year 1886
The angel of death has again visited the Koehler family this time claiming the life of Miss Ilda Franciska Koehler, 85, who passed away Sunday, April 30 at 12:25 p.m.Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Sternborg funeral chapel and internment made in the East Side cemetery. Rev. G. E. Forsell was in charge.
Miss Koehler was born Oct. 10, 1859 at Oquaka, Ill., and in 1865 moved with her parents to Ft. Madison, Iowa, where she received her education and grew to womanhood. The Koehler family moved to a farm three miles north of Estherville in 1886 and resided there for about 20 years. After leaving the farm Ilda and two brothers, Emil and Hugo moved to Estherville and lived here several years. She then went to Greensboro, N.C., with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Anderson and later for a number of years with another sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hamshaw near Cheynne, Wyo. After the death of Mr. Hamshaw, the sisters moved back to this city and resided here until their deaths.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Anderson of Havelock, N.C., and Mrs. Adelaide Koehler of Minneapolis and a brother, O.H. Koehler, of Estherville. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 4, 1944)
