Milford Johnson Died at Minneapolis, Minn.
Had Been Confined to His Bed Since Last June – Funeral Was Held Saturday

After a heroic battle against death that lasted for several months, Milford Johnson, well known Estherville young man, was finally forced to give up and passed away at Oak Park sanitarium, Minneapolis, last Wednesday morning. Everything possible was done to prolong his life but his extended illness had taken all his strength and he was no longer able to fight against his illness. He was patient and humble throughout all his sufferings and never complained of his lot in life. He had lived in Estherville practically all his life and had many friends here who deeply regretted to learn of his death. Loving hands gave him all the tender care that it was possible for a human being to bestow upon their loved ones. The sympathy of the entire community is extended the bereaved parents and brothers and sisters in their hours of grief and sorrow.

Milford Lionel Johnson was born at Dunnell, Minnesota, May 21, 1902. He was one of a family of five children born to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Johnson. The greater part of his life was spent on the farm. In 1921 he came with his parents to live in Estherville, Iowa. Having arrived at young manhood he engaged himself in various labors both here and elsewhere. He was of a mechanical turn of mind and showed great aptitude for handling machinery. Last winter he suffered an attack of influenza in connection with which there developed complications which ultimately caused his death. Since last June he has been confined to his bed almost continuously. He sought relief in various ways and places. About three weeks ago he made a second visit to Minneapolis, hoping it might help his condition. On October 5th he passed away at Oak Park sanitarium, aged 24 years, 4 months and 8 days.

There survive to mourn his loss his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Johnson, Estherville, Iowa; one brother, Clarence, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Enos O’Shaughnessy, of Grand Forks, N. Dak.; Mrs. H. C. Munson and Mrs. Eric Ericson, of Dunnell, Minn.; also many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Estherville, on Saturday afternoon. The pall bearers were Jim Kirk, Mike and Joe Erpeling, Raymond Jenson, Walter Blazer and Russell Eike. Interment took place in the Oak Hill cemetery.

The following relatives were present from out of town at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Anderson, Mrs. Amanda Nelson, of Boone, Iowa; Mrs. Allie Morlin, of Scranton, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hedburg, of Boxholm, Iowa.

Once a youth lay sick and dying
Few short days ago, ‘tis said;
With his mother kneeling by him,
Bitter were the tears she shed.
