Brownell Jacobson was for years a prosperous and popular resident of this county, leaving here only about six years ago. He was born in Norway on October 22, 1864, and came to this country with his parents when he was but five years of age. The family came to Illinois where they resided until 1887, when they came to Emmet county.

On September third, 1886, he was united in marriage to Caroline Christopher and to this union there were born seven children, all of whom are living. Mrs. Ed Andrews, Cedar Falls; Mrs. Harry Luckenbil, Brookings, South Dakota; Mrs. Alfred Myhre, Estherville; Julius, Myrtle, Bennett and Ernest who reside with the bereaved mother in Brookings, South Dakota. The deceased also leaves a brother, C. M. Jacobson, of Webster, South Dakota and Mrs. Ole Questad of Gruver.

While here the deceased was engaged in farming, later in the grain business, and then in the banking business at Gruver. Since moving to Brookings he has been engaged in the grain business. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, October 17, 1917)

Note: Although the obituaries say Brownell Jacobson was buried in Swan Lake Cemetery, Oak Hill Cemetery records list him as being buried there. His wife’s obituary in 1931 states that she was buried in Oak Hill, as do the Oak Hill Cemetery records. Either Mr. Jacobson’s obituaries are incorrect, or he was moved at a later date to Oak Hill.
