A Life of Suffering Ended
Horace Gorton died at the home of his father, F. E. Gorton, Monday forenoon at 11 o’clock, after a long sickness from diabetes. The funeral occurred yesterday. The service was held at the home, Rev. G. W. Southwell officiating, and the remains were interred in Oak Hill cemetery.

Horace Eugene Groton was born in Rock Island county, Illinois, May 1, 1866. When he was less than one year old his parents came to Iowa, locating in Linn county near Cedar Rapids. Here he lived with his parents until March 18, 1899, when he removed with his brother to Emmet county where he has since lived. He departed this life December 11, 1899, aged 33 years, 7 months and 10 days. Horace was preceded into the better world by two sisters and one brother, leaving his father, mother, -- sisters and three brothers to mourn his loss. M. J. Herrick of this city has received the sad news of the death of his nephew, Horace Gorton of bright’s disease. His death occurred on Monday, December 11, at Estherville. Mr. Gorton formerly lived in this vicinity about 4 miles northwest of Marion and was well known here. (Cedar Rapids Republican, Cedar Rapids, IA, December 13, 1899)
