ESTHERVILLE--Boyd Jacob Berghefer, 58, Estherville, died Saturday at Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.
Services for Mr. Berghefer will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Estherville Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Weigman officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Pomeroy.
Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral until 9 o'clock tonight and at the church prior to services Tuesday.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Berghefer, he was born Dec. 30, 1920, at Latimer. The family moved to Belmond when he was a young boy.
Mr. Berghefer taught in country schools near Dows before entering the the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the Corps of Engineers in
the Aleution Islands.He was married to Elaine Els on Aug. 19, 1951, at Pomeroy.
A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, he came to Estherville in 1949, where he taught American history and American government and was a coach. He was also the junior class sponsor.
He was confined-to a wheelchair after being injured in a traffic accident on Oct. 24, 1952.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as secretary of the church council and president of the men's brotherhood, and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Iowa Historical Society and Paralized Veterans of America.
Mr. Berghefer is survived by his wife, Elaine, Estherville; five sisters, Mrs. Pete (Edna) Kroeger, Belmond, Mrs. George (Ina) Stille, Goodell, Mrs. Lola Rroning, Randall, Mrs. Doris Musselman, Story City, and Mrs. Carroll (Garnet) Beenen, Newton.
He was preceeded in death by his parents.
