Mrs. U. M. Ellis Died at Home Near Huntington
Well Known and Respected Lady of That Community Laid to Rest Here

Ida M. Patton was born near Ridge Farm, Illinois, on November 7, 1859, and passed away at the home of her son, Mack M. Ellis, at Huntington, Iowa, March 1, 1920, age 60 years, 3 months and 22 days.

She was united in marriage to U. M. Ellis, October 19, 1876 at St. Joseph, Illinois, with whom she lived most happily for fourteen years and to this union were born five children, all of whom are now living. The father and husband was called in death December 27, 1890, after a long and painful illness. Mrs. Ellis, the widow and mother through all the succeeding years has born the burdens that fell upon her and always with Christian fortitude and maintained a home for the children until they in turn were married and builded homes of their own.

At the early age of fifteen she united with the Friends’ Church and she has been a faithful member ever since. In her long sickness she was a great sufferer but learned how to bury her own sorrows knowing that the world has its own, through it all her spirit was ever cheerful and she seemed always to see the brighter side.

She leaves to mourn her death, five children, Will and Mack of Huntington and Mrs. Tom Smith of Huntington, Iowa; Mrs. Ira Souders of Stewart, Minn., and Mrs. Myrtle Hannah of Elnora, Indiana. Also one brother, B. J. C. Patton of Superior, Iowa, and two sisters, Rev. Grace Elliot, pastor of the Friend’s Church of Patton, Iowa; and Mrs. Hattie West of Victoria, B.C. She also leaves nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A host of friends and neighbors sympathizes deeply with the bereaved family.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, March 6th, from the Mack Ellis home and then from the Methodist Episcopal Church of Huntington, Iowa, and the body was buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery Saturday afternoon. Rev. J. W. LaGrone, of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Estherville was in charge of the funeral services. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 10, 1920)
