Dan Brady Here For Years But Unknown, Dies
Dan Brady, who has resided at the south bridge for several years passed away at the county farm last Monday [June 1, 1926] afternoon. Brady has been a character about here that not many knew or understood. He was a fine fellow. No one knew where he came from or who he was. He never divulged any of his past history or who or where his relatives were. He told Mae Groves [unreadable because of paper fold] a wealthy sister. It is thought he had been a race horse man at some time. It is also thought that he was from Louisville, Ky. Mr. Brady always had a horror of going to the poor farm. He had enough to have kept him from it but there was no other place to take him. Mrs. Groves purchased a lot in Oak Hill cemetery for him so that he would not be laid to rest in the potter’s field. The funeral services will be held from the Allen Funeral home on Thursday afternoon at three o’clock. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 2, 1926)
