Maurice E. Burrell Dies at Hospital After Illness
Maurice Burrell, 66 of Orleans died yesterday at 5 p.m. at Dickinson County Memorial hospital, Spirit Lake. Death was attributed to pneumonia.

Mr. Burrell has been in failing health for several years; he had been hospitalized since last Friday.

Maurice Edward Burrell was born Jan 26, 1899, to Mr. and Mrs. William Burrell in Harrisburg, Pa. He received his education in Pennsylvania schools and Grundy Center schools.

He moved with his parents to Grundy Center when he was 11. While in his teens he and his parents moved to a farm near Gruver.

Mr. Burrell was married March 22, 1919, to Joy Watson at Estherville, where they made their home until 1958 when they moved to Orleans.

He was associated with Standard Oil Co. for many years and retired in 1955.

Mr. Burrell was a member of the First Methodist Church of Estherville, the North Star Lodge 447, Estherville Chapter, Commandery, the Consistory and Abu-Bekr Shrine of Sioux City. He was a former member of the Estherville school board, the airport commission, and Isaak Walton League.

He is survived by his widow; one son, Kenneth of Estherville; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Barnes of Lafayette, Ind.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Erlandsen of Lake Elmo, Minn., and Mrs. Grace Wee of Grinnell; his mother, Mrs. Sarah Burrell of Estherville, and one brother, Paul of Portland.

Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the First Methodist church, Rev. Fred Ortmeyer officiating. Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Friday until noon Saturday. The body will then be taken to the church to lie in state until time of service.

Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 11, 1965)
