Gus Blank Dead

Gus Blank died at his home in this city last evening after an illness of nearly two years. He was thought to have consumption in the early part of his sickness and he went to Arizona in search of relief but received none. He returned and for several months past has been suffering with an abscess in his side. He was 46 years of age at the time of his death and had resided in Emmet county over sixteen years. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Lutheran church.

Gustav Blank was born in Prussia, Germany, April 26th, 1856; emigrated to this country at the age of ten years and located at Genesco, Ill., where he was reared and came to Iowa in 1884, and settled on a farm east of this place. Deceased, although somewhat eccentric, was strictly upright and honorable in all his dealings. He was a man who attended to his own business and was considered a good citizen. The family and relatives of Mr. Blank have the sympathy of this community in their hour of profound sorrow. (The Evening Tribune, Estherville, IA, March 24, 1902)

Gus Blank Dead

Monday morning at 3:30 o’clock Gus Blank died at the Anderson hospital of abscess of the liver. Mr. Blank had not been well for the past years, and the last three months was confined to his bed.

The funeral services were held at the Lutheran church at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, and the remains laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery.

Gus Blank was born in Germany April, 1856. Eighteen years ago the family moved to Estherville where they have since lived.

Mr. Blank was one of Estherville’s loyal citizens whose sudden departure the community will justly feel. We join in sympathy to Mrs. Blank and daughters, Millie and Helen. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 26, 1902)
