Mrs. W. O. Blake Dies Suddenly
Stricken With Paralysis Thursday Evening and Passes to Reward During the nightThe community was greatly shocked Friday morning to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. W. O. Blake, one of Estherville’s most highly respected ladies. She was stricken with paralysis Thursday evening and passed away during the night, never having regained consciousness.
Funeral services were held from the home on East Lincoln street Sunday afternoon conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Voorhies, of the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member.
She is survived by a husband and one son, Dell Blake, of Gruver.
Deceased was born in Dallas county, Iowa, February 10, 1861. She came to this part of Iowa several years ago and resided in Dickinson and Emmet counties until she and her husband moved to Estherville about eight years ago.
She was a true Christian lady, a faithful wife and devoted mother and her untimely death will be deeply mourned by her many friends in this part of Iowa.
She was a member of the Eastern Star organization of this city. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 31, 1922)
Obituary of Mrs. W. O. Blake
The remains of Mrs. W. O. Blake were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery on Sunday of last week. Mrs. Blake who was in apparently good health was taking treatments in this city for some foot trouble when she became seriously ill. She was taken to her home at once and in the course of an hour passed to her reward. This sudden fatal illness was a great shock to her relatives and friends in this community. Mrs. Emma Schlosser Blake was born February 10, 1861 near Dallas Center and died at her home in this city May 22nd. She was united in marriage to W. O. Blake in February 1889 and to this union there was one son born, Dell S. Blake of Gruver. Mrs. Blake was a good Christian woman and a member of the Presbyterian church and a member of the Eastern Star and White Shrine. She lived the greater portion of her life on the same farm five miles south east of Dallas Center, and moved to this city in 1912. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, one son and one brother, Wm. Schlosser of Ames and one sister, Mrs. Alfred Wilkinson of Paton. Those here for the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Alfred Wilkinson, Mrs. Vinie Johnson, Miss June Wilkinson, Mrs. Floyd Wilkinson, of Paton, Iowa, Miss Nettie Robinson, Mrs. Jake Hawbaker of Dallas Center, Iowa, Mrs. Olie Schlosser of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Stattler, of Kimball, S.D., Mr. R. R. Blake, Mrs. Melvin Ball of Waukee.Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Wagner of Mason City and many other friends. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 7, 1922)
