Estherville Young Man Died Suddenly
Daniel Batman Taken Ill Friday and Passed Away at Hospital Saturday Morning

One of Estherville’s most likeable and agreeable young men passed away on Saturday morning when Daniel Batman, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Batman, answered death’s summons after an illness of only two days. He had always been in good health and had been attending to his work regularly each day. On Friday he was taken quite ill and it was thought he had an attack of appendicitis. He was taken to the hospital where he submitted to an operation but other complications had already set in and he passed away Saturday morning. Everything that surgical skill and loving hands could do was done for him but his condition was hopeless. Daniel Elmer Batman was born August 5, 1901, at Hornick, Iowa. He was the son of Anna Jane and Daniel F. Batman. He resided at Hornick until 1914 when he together with his parents and brothers and sisters moved to Pipestone, Minn., residing there for four years. From Pipestone they moved to Birch Tree, Mo., and came to Estherville in 1920 where he has lived ever since. Mr. Batman was employed in the Rock Island shops before the strike in 1922 and was called back to his work in April, 1924, having served four years of apprenticeship, becoming a full fledged car man a few months before his death. He leaves to mourn his early departure his father and mother, three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Morgan, Mrs. Ray Scott and Mrs. Henry Jones, and one brother, Theodore, all living in or near Estherville, besides a host of friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by one brother and sister. His family were all with him at the time of his illness and death. Mr. Batman was well liked by everyone who knew him. He had a host of friends in this city and wherever he located because of his pleasant manner and agreeable disposition. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and was a man who possessed unusually high principles and morals and lived in accordance with these high ideals throughout his entire life. During his parent’s declining years he has been their main support and his place in the home can never be filled. Deceased was a generous and big hearted man and was always ready to sacrifice his own pleasure and comforts for those of his family and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Christian church, Rev. Olmstead officiating. The members of the Carmen’s Union payed their last respects to their devote worker by attending the services in a body. Members of the union acted as pall bearers. Deceased was a regular attendant of the Christian church and was one of their most loyal members. He united with this church in 1922 during the Cole Evangelistic meetings and was baptized by Rev. P. H. Green. The sympathy of the entire community is extended the bereaved family and relatives in their hours of grief over the loss of their beloved son and brother. Taken away as he was in the prime of his life makes his passing away doubly sad but the parents and brothers and sisters have the great consolation of knowing that his life has been such that it gives promise of greater things in the hereafter.
