Rites Held Tuesday for N. S. Bartleman, Longtime Barber Here
N. S. (Nate) Bartleman, 74, well known and longtime Graettinger barber, died suddenly at his home here about 6 p.m. Friday [April 14, 1961] after suffering a heart attack. He had been in failing health the past several years.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Martin Funeral home with the Rev. R. O. Grote officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill cemetery at Estherville. Active pallbearers were Tom Millea, R. T. Naae, Rolfe Lundgren, Lee Robinson, Les Garber and John Clemenson. Honorary pallbearers were Ted Gilbaugh, Frank Christensen, C. A. Jensen, Francis Warren, Albert Hockett and Harry Sloniker.
Nathan Sherwood Bartleman was born at Dysart, Iowa, Oct. 24, 1886. On Oct. 19, 1911 he married Marle Kroenecke at Estherville. The couple moved to Graettinger in 1917 where Mr Bartleman has been a barber since that time. He was semi-retired for a number of years.
He is survived by his widow, a sister, Mrs. F. W. (Effie) Effmeyer of Rock Island, Ill., and two brothers, George of Estherville and Roy of St. James, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, April 20, 1961)
