A Pioneer Gone
Mrs. John Amundson, Sr., of Swan Lake Township Dies Monday Afternoon
After an illness of only a few days, Mrs. John Amundson, Sr., of Swan Lake township passed away at four o’clock Monday afternoon, aged seventy-nine years. Funeral services were held at the residence at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon and the body laid to rest in Swan Lake cemetery. [According to Oak Hill cemetery records, burial was in Oak Hill). She bore the cares of pioneer life with Christian fortitude and was greatly devoted to her husband and children. Her womanly graces and virtues won for her many life long friends.

In 1868 they moved to Emmet county and settled on a farm in Swan Lake township where she lived the balance of her life. She was the mother of eight children, all living but one. They are: Ammun J., Miss Jessie, Mrs. Gilbert Gilbertsen, John Jr., Ole C. and Henry of this county and Mrs. Mattie Gilifillan of Minneapolis. Death of a Pioneer
Mrs. John Amundson, Sr., died at her home in Swan Lake township on Monday, July 8th, at four o’clock p.m., at the age of 79 years, one month and ten days. She had been sick only a few days, the cause of her death being an obstruction of the bowels. Deceased came to Emmet county with her husband in 1869, 32 years ago and has lived almost in the same neighborhood all these years.
