Was Taken Sick About Three Weeks Ago at Vinita, Oklahoma
Brought to Estherville for Burial
Lived in Emmet County Most of His Life – Moved to Vinita Three Years AgoThis community was shocked to learn of the sudden and untimely death of Dr. O. C. Amundson, at his home at Vinita, Oklahoma, early Sunday morning November 1st of typhoid fever. The community knew of his illness but did not realize the severity of the case or anticipate so sudden and fatal a termination. Mr. Amundson was in the prime of life and was well and favorably known by nearly every one in Emmet county. He was born and brought up on a farm on the shore of Swan Lake and until four years ago, when he moved to Vinita, Oklahoma, he had been associated and identified with the people and with the interests of the county.
After leaving the farm he was in the drug business in Estherville and afterwards studied medicine, graduating from the Physician and Surgeon College, Chicago, a short time previous to his going south. He was a man who made friends wherever he lived and since going south had established a fine practice in his chosen profession.
The remains were brought to Estherville Tuesday and the funeral is to be held this Wednesday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church and is to be in charge of the Knights of Pythias of which order he was an honored and respected member.
A wife and daughter, three brothers, John, of this city, Henry of Bancroft, Ammon, of Swan Lake township, and three sisters, Miss Bessie, of Minneapolis, S. L. Gilfillan of Minneapolis and Mrs. Gilbert Gilbertson, Emmet County are left to mourn the untimely death of O. C. Amundson. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 4, 1908)

Died at Vinita, Oklahoma, Saturday of Typhoid FeverDr. O. C. Amundson died at his home in Vinita, Oklahoma, Saturday evening, October 31st, of typhoid fever after a brief illness. The news of his death was a great shock to the people of this city where he was born and raised and remained a resident until four years ago when he located in Oklahoma for the practice of his chosen profession. With a heavy heart we would drop a tear to the memory of Oren C. Amundson. His death has brought the bitter cup of sorrow to the lips of friends and relatives. His was a heart of gold. He was one of nature’s noblemen in its truest sense – brave, generous and manly. His was a soul of honor and his friends and friendships were sacred to him. O. C. Amundson, the subject of this simple memorial, was born in Swan Lake township, this county, and at the time of his death was thirty-seven years of age. For the past twenty years the writer has been intimately acquainted with him and it is with deepest regret we chronicle his sad and untimely death.
To the broken-hearted relatives, who sit in sorrow where his footsteps shall never again find echo, we extend the sympathy of one who loved him as a brother. Peace to his ashes.
The remains were brought here Tuesday morning for burial and funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church this afternoon and interment made in Oak Hill Cemetery. A wife and daughter, three brothers and three sisters are left to mourn his death.
The Knights of Pythias had charge of the funeral which was held in the Presbyterian church this afternoon. Deceased was a member of that order for sixteen years. He was also a member of the Congregational church at Vinita. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, November 4, 1908)
