G. Zeeman Dies in the West
A Long Time Resident of This City and Was a Popular Bank President
Has Been Ill Three Years
The Remains Were Brought to This City and Laid to Rest in Oak Hill Cemetery

G. Zeeman, a well known and greatly beloved citizen of this city, passed away at Glendale Sanitarium, California, on Oct. 27. Mr. Zeeman had suffered for several years and for the past four months has been failing rapidly. Some three years ago he had a stroke, and since that time has been unable to be about a great deal.

While he has suffered much and a great portion of the time has been confined to his bed, he has been a patient sufferer and has always greeted his friends with a pleasant smile, which was one of his natural characteristics during his life time. Some months ago he went to California thinking it might improve his condition, and it did for a short period of time. During his illness his wife has been constantly with him, and when the end came.

Mr. Zeeman was a man of many friends. It might well be said of him his friends were numbered by his acquaintances. He was born in Schagen, Holland, on February 26, 1857. He came to America with his family in the spring of 1883 and settled in Sioux County. He with his family moved to South Dakota in 1892 where he was engaged in the banking business at Emery. He came to Estherville in 1904 and was president of the Estherville State Bank. His first illness came in 1914. The remains were brought here this morning for burial. The services were held from the Andrew Smith home, the Rev. Hock officiating. His remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, and two daughters, Mrs. Andrew Smith of this city and Mrs. Lee Brown of Emery, S. Dak. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 2, 1921)
