Chas. F. Ziemer Answers Call Wednesday
Charles F. Ziemer died at the City Hospital Wednesday, September 4, 1918, of injuries received at the Rock Island freight office Monday, August 26.

He was a kind father and good husband and discharged the duties that he had to perform faithfully and with a grim determination to do his work well. His loss will be deeply mourned by his seven children and his wife.

Chas. F. Ziemer was born in Somerania, Germany, January 30, 1865. He was baptized and confirmed in the German Lutheran faith. He came to this country at the age of 21 and located at Sherburn, Minnesota. He was married January 27, 1891, to Miss Emma Schmidt. Eight children were born to this union: Mrs. Ella Perkins of Hillman, Minnesota, Ed. H., Robert, Lillie, Paul, Laura, Lloyd and Zola. The children are living but Robert. Their mother died in 1910.

He was married again in 1914 to Mrs. Barbara Ringham who survives him.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. A. Berge in the Norwegian Lutheran church Friday afternoon and interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Charles F. Ziemer died at his home in this city last Wednesday evening from injured received while at work at the Rock Island freight house in this city, on Monday, August 26th. Mr. Ziemer, according to reports, slipped on the platform while trucking freight, fell between a car and the platform, sustaining injuries from which he never recovered. He was a hart working man of excellent character and was honored and respected by all who knew him. He was especially popular among his fellow workmen and will greatly missed from the home in which he took so much interest.

Chas. F. Ziemer was born in Tomerania, Germany, on January 30, 1865, being at the time of his death 53 years, 7 months and 5 days of age. He came to this country when he was twenty-one years of age, locating in Minnesota. After a few years spent in our neighboring state, he moved to Kossuth county, Iowa, then came from that county to Estherville, where he has since resided. He was married to Emma Schmidt on January 27, 1891, and to this union eight children were born They are Mrs. Ella Perkins, of Hillman, Minnesota, Ed, who is in the army, stationed at Valparaiso, Ind.; Robert, Lilly, Paul, Laura, Lloyd and Zola. All are living except Robert. The wife and mother died in 1910.

In 1914 he was married to Mrs. Barbara Ringham, of this city, who with the seven children survive him. Funeral services were held from the Norwegian Lutheran church in this city last Friday afternoon, Rev. Berge in charge. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, September 11, 1918)
