Death of Mrs. L. A. Wanamaker

Mrs. L.A. Wanamaker died Thursday, the 19th last, at her home on South Seventh street from the effects of a cancer. Funeral was held from the residence Sunday afternoon in charge of the Christian Science church, and the body laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery.

A husband, two sons, Lou and Glenn and a daughter, Miss May Wanamaker are left to mourn her demise. Mrs. Wanamaker, formerly Miss Celia Adelade Logan, was born at Saginaw, Mich., April 24th, 1857, and died March 20th, 1908, aged 50 years, 10 months and 26 day. When young in life she came to Bremer county near Plainfield, Iowa where she spent most of her life. On October 4, 1879, she was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Lee A. Wanamaker and to this happy union three children were born, all of whom survive her.

She was reared in a Christian home where she early learned to love the Christ through the example of her parents. Fourteen years ago she professed faith in the name she had learned in early years to reverence as her Savior, and identified herself with the Baptist church and was a member of that denomination until last June when she became a member of The Mother Church of Christian Scientists, of Boston, Mass. She was a true and devoted follower of this faith till death called her to the church triumphant. Those who were best acquainted with her and knew her most intimately considered her a woman of sincere and conscientious life, never compromising with evil and always cherishing the good. To those who knew her in her home life she was an example of motherly kindness, whose sympathy and devotion to her home and family will always be remembered with great profit and helpfulness. She was so interested in making home a place of true happiness and cheer that she sacrificed many social pleasures outside of the home and was willing to forego those pleasures to minister to the joy of the family circle. During the last of her days on earth when she was shut in by failing strength she manifested the most triumphant faith in God and would often speak of His goodness and love. The wide circle of sympathetic and loving friends join the family in their sorrow and mourn with them the loss of a devoted wife and faithful mother. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 25, 1908)
